Posted 11/04/16 by YourStudio

From 12 - 17 April Milan transforms itself into a festival of design and culture, hosting events, installations, exhibitions and product launches all over the city. This post will highlight our Top 5 on Designers.

Max Lamb

The Last Stool Splatter is a collaboration between designer Max Lamb and furniture brand Hem. It is the latest in Lamb's series of material experiments, made in enameled steel, brass or copper and patterned by hand.

Where? Via Varese 12

Nendo 'Manga' chairs

Nendo is created an installation of 50 chairs, inspired by Manga comics. In similarly grid-like structures to Manga narratives, Nendo has formed these abstract steel pieces, all reflective and whimsical alterations of the original line-work frame.

Where? Piazza S. Simpliciano 7

Bethan Laura Wood

The newest collection of Bethan Laura Wood, 'Guadeloupe' created a double language on the same surface through incision and colour. The expressive patterns and graphic shapes are inspired by Bitossi Ceramiche's 1950s to 1970s archive.

Where? Bitossi Ceramiche at the Fiera Rho, hall 20, D25

Paul Smith x Gufram

Gufram's Cactus coat hanger is designed in 1972. The cactus captured the playful spirit and childlike optimism of 1970s Italian design. To celebrate 50 years of Gufram, Paul Smith created a limited edition run of 169 cacti with psychedelic colour scheme.

"The strength of this project lies in the function between two different world: Sir Paul Smith did not merely cover a cactus with colour, he reimagined and transformed it by drawing inspiration from the hallucinogenic vibes of that crazy time period. The outcome is psychedelic; a creativity peyote."

- Charley Vezza, Global Creative Orchestrator at Gufram

Raw Edges

Raw Edges is a Israeli design studio, and for the exhibition at 5vie art + design, they explore the herringbone pattern. The installation will act as a performance, starting with the production materials they use for their experimentation with colouring woods to how the unending pattern is formed.

Where? Via Zecca Vecchia 3

Our Top 5 of Designers is only a small selection of many. For more inspiration, visit our preview on 'Installations & Exhibitions' and 'Ventura Lambrate'.

We hope to see you there!
